Q: What exactly is UNCOVERED again?
A: It’s an online membership or subscription that gives you access to the creative process and week-to-week activities of Orchestra Nashville, one of the world’s most innovative orchestras. You pay only once up front for about a year’s worth of content documenting the Orchestra's creative process of presenting its season of concerts or the making of a CD. Then at the end of the project you receive the CD. Uncovered is powered by ArtistShare.
Q: What kind of “content” are we talking about?
A: Before the year is over you’ll see a wide range of stuff from us: video and audio highlights from rehearsals, concerts, recording sessions and key behind-the-scenes meetings, radio-style interviews with Orchestra Nashville members, guest artists and composers, and slide shows with commentary from the artists that take you inside their creative spaces where the music is composed and rehearsed. You’ll be a fly on the wall to experience those never-before-seen moments of creative discovery that are the building blocks of the heart and soul of the music.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: Basic membership in an UNCOVERED project is around $19.95, which gives you access to nearly all of the digital and on-line content we produce, as well as the project’s new CD or album download at the end of the year. There are also premium packages which give you much, much more, including catalog CDs and DVDs from Orchestra Nashville and its guest artists, and most important, personal access to the musicians.
Q: Are there different UNCOVERED projects to choose from?
A: Yes. The first project is “John Jorgneson UNCOVERED,” which allows you to participate in the creation of a new CD with Orchestra Nashville and guitar legend John Jorgenson. See details here.
Orchestra Nashville UNCOVERED follows the Orchestra and its members and guest artists as they design, rehearse and perform their concert season, concluding with “Best of the Season” CDs of the Adventure Series and Acoustic Cafe series. Q: Is this blog part of UNCOVERED?
A: Yes, it's the free public face of the program, where you'll find updates about what's been added and news from the world of Orchestra Nashville.
Q: If I decide to participate in one of the Uncovered projects in the middle of the year, do I get access all the content that’s been released before I signed up?
A: Absolutely. It will all be there waiting for you.
Q: Why are we doing this?
A: UNCOVERED is a way for Orchestra Nashville to reach out to music fans worldwide for support and community-building. Musical groups need more than CD sales and concert tickets to sustain their work. Your UNCOVERED participation fee helps pay musicians’ salaries and commissions for new works. But it does a lot more because in return, you get to see, hear and feel what it means to make music in Nashville. And we get to know you better. This will be a two-way conversation, and we think this could be the most important new thing we as an orchestra has ever tried.
I heard the NCO live for the first time last night in Gypsy Nights. Brilliant and inspired playing, the hall was wonderful. One frustration, though: during the piece Istiqbal Gathering the featured players were buried in the mix unless the orchestra was very quiet or not playing. I could see John Jorgenson's fingers moving, but could not hear his lines.
Guess I'll have to buy the recording:-)
Fun night overall.
